AVATAR is a 2009 American science fiction movie written and directed by prolific film director James Cameron. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang play the starring roles. The word Avatar originated in Indian mythology. It denotes "god's visit to Earth to fix something that is broken". Vishnu, one of the 3 gods who shield creation, visits Earth frequently. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is portrayed dark-blue. Having been possibly inspired by Hindu mythology, Cameron has also decided to paint the aliens blue. Set in the future on an alien moon called Pandora located the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar movie tells the ever-lasting story of gluttony, immaturity and the ferocity resulting from ignorance. The story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who goes to Pandora the planet located in the Alpha Centauri star system to help The Corporation aiming to mine and export unobtainium - a precious mineral. The Na'vi are the alien sentient humonoid civilisation living and thriving on the moon. They are a part of a big symbiotic living system including plants and animals which are connected by a biological communication network. The Corporation intends to mine the moon and the Na'vi fight against the conquerors for their homeland. The expansion of the mining colony menaces the continued existence of the local tribe. Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their habitat, culture and language. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets in the forest, helps him through this journey. Jake falls in love with her. Avatars are biological creations - a mixture of human and alien DNA. They are not self-aware and are controlled by a human whose DNA they were made from. The soldier controls an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA. Avatar is an idealistic movie demonstrating an ideal world. The ending is especially moving. The visual effects are captivating. Being a talented skillful movie maker, Cameron has shot one of the most thought-out and consistent movies. The film is really worth viewing.
